kwadwo asamoah

Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah was the star-man for Juventus who coasted to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Chievo Verona at the Juventus Arena on Saturday.

The 23-year-old set up his former Udinese team-mate Fabio Quagliarella  for the Old Ladies’ second goal with a measure of artistry.

Asamoah produced a deft cut to go past two Chievo defenders on the left wing before laying an accurate pass for Quagliarella who forced his effort past Sorrentino in the 68th minute.

The Black Stars midfielder who has netted twice since joining the Bianconeris in August lasted the entire duration of the game.

Juventus have maintained their perfect record in the Serie A; winning all four of their opening games.

Ghana faces toughest test so far against Morocco

Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu has warned his Black Satellites team that this Sunday’s clash against Morocco will be the toughest test so far.

The men’s U-20 team host their North African opponents in the first leg of the final-round qualifier for the 2013 African Youth Championship at the Tamale Stadium.

Konadu, who hopes his side can push for a good first leg win to improve their chances of reaching next year’s finals has cautioned his team against looking beyond Sunday’s match.

“This will be our toughest task so far,” Konadu said ahead of the game.

“We need to be relaxed but be filled with the determination needed to win such a game. We must get a good home result.”

The Ghana coach fully expects his side to claim a win in Tamale and continue their great work towards qualifying as the aggregate winner over both legs will qualify for next year’s Championship in Algeria.

“I’m confident we’ll keep up the good work on Sunday. We have to impose ourselves on the game against Morocco, create chances and not be in a rush but finish off well,” he explained.

Seven teams will make it from the qualifiers and join hosts, Algeria, in the finals next year.

Ishmael Yartey targets second Ligue 1 win for Sochaux

ImageGhana winger Ishmael Yartey believes his French Ligue 1 side FC Sochaux would record their second win of the campaign in Saturday’s tie against Troyes.

Les Lionceaux bagged their first points of the season in last Saturday’s shocking victory over Saint Etienne at their own backyard.

Eric Hely’s side welcome bottom-placed Troyes to the Stade Auguste-Bonal and they must scrap all three points to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

Yartey who came off the bench to inspire to the Montbéliard-based side to the victory at St Etienne believes his side have gathered the right momentum to coast to victory.

“The team has some new spirit now after the victory at St Etienne. We believe we can win and the entire team remain more determined.” He said.

The former Ghana U17 star lauds the influence of the Malian international Kalilou Traoré.

“He’s a real quality midfielder and he has the experience and possesses some real good qualities so he can help us get there.” He added.

The former FC Servette talisman has featured in four of Sochaux’s opening five games of the campaign.

Ghana defender David Addy wins best player award on Guimaraes debut

Ghana defender David Addy was voted the Man-of-the-Match on his debut for Vitoria Guimaraes.

The 22-year-old scored what eventually proved to be the winner in Friday’s 1-0 win over Moreirense in the Portuguese top flight.

His solidity at the back with his surging runs upfront to provide pin-point crosses plus his goal was enough to convince the match assessors.

The 2009 U-20 World Cup winner arrived from Porto this summer in search of regular first team action.

He had very limited first team opportunities during his two-year stay with the Portuguese champions and as a result was twice farmed out on loan.

The ex Randers FC player finally decided to leave after he was excluded from the official Porto squad for this season.

Addy’s return to first team action is a delight to many who believed his immense talent was being put to waste during his time at Porto.

Eric Bekoe not guaranteed place in Chelsea’s starting X1

Striker Eric Bekoe must work his sucks off to earn a regular spot in Berekum Chelsea lineup, says assistant coach Annor Walker.

The 25-year-old has joined the 2010 Ghanaian League Champions on a two-year deal after his hugely publicized move to Kotoko collapsed.

The former Petrojet man is expected to be a direct replacement for Emmanuel Clottey who has  also signed for  Tunisian giants Esperance after he excelled heavily for the Blues.

Bekoe will form a strong attacking partnership with either Latif Salifu or Bismark Idan but the club’s assistant trainer insists there are no automatic places for any player.

“ He (Bekoe) has sat down for two years without playing and so he needs to work hard to break into the team,” Walker said

“If he adheres to instructions at training, he will bounce back and become one of the best strikers in the upcoming season.

“I have not seen him. This is the first time that I will be working with him but I believe if he’s serious he can make it.

“Every player will have to fight for a place in the team and that includes him (Bekoe).

“But I have no doubt in my mind that he will be a huge success for the club.”

However there are others who have expressed fear about his fitness level but he insists he is in top shape and slams critics over peddling falsehood about his health.

“Throughout my career I have never had a knee injury and so It saddens me when I hear people make such claims,” Bekoe fumed

“If you don’t want me just say so and stop peddling falsehood.”

Chelsea condemn racist tweets directed at Mikel

Chelsea have confirmed that John Obi Mikel has closed his account on social networking website Twitter after receiving racial abuse following the 2-2 draw with Juventus on Wednesday evening.

The midfielder was at fault for the Italians’ equaliser, as his misplaced pass allowed Fabio Quagliarella in to deny the Blues all three points in their opening Champions League Group E game.

That error led to several racist tweets being directed at the Nigeria international, something which the west London club have now condemned.

Chelsea wrote on Twitter: “Abuse on social networks is abhorrent. Racist tweets towards Mikel are totally unacceptable. Police informed. #CFC supports strongest action.”

Two hours earlier, the Stamford Bridge side had tweeted to deny reports that the 25-year-old had been targeted through the site but have now been forced to backtrack.

The original tweet read: “Not true Mikel quit Twitter due to messages received. He’d wanted to leave for a while & deleted his acct today without looking at it. #CFC”

Mikel accepted full responsibility for his mistake after Wednesday’s game, telling Sky Sports: “I’m disappointed, it was my pass and I over-hit it.”
